January 26, 1999 we will see the latest release by blackicon6.gif (695 bytes):  "1999: The New Master".   This is in response to Warner Bros. not allowing him to buy his master tapes of the originals.  So he rerecorded his famous song with Chaka khan, Larry Graham and Doug E. Fresh who raps on it.  (?)  Seems that an artist can rerecord their songs after about 7 years and rerelease it.  The EP will have 7 mixes on it and apparantly will be distributed by BMG.  To hear clips of the tracks, go to his official site - Love4OneAnother.com.  I dunno about you folks, but I'm gonna be too excited to remember the lyrics once I get my hands on this baby!  Too bad he didn't release this gem in December, a998.  It would've gone gold by now!  BTW, if you are as eager as I, u can get yourself a blackicon6.gif (695 bytes) 1999 calander from his merchandise company, 1-800-NEW-FUNK for about $31with shipping.  I'm getting mine in 2 weeks, yay!

The AMerican Music Awards happened tonight.  Some of the winners were Pearl Jam, Will Smith won 2 awards, Brandy, Aerosmith, and Shania Twain.  Congratulations to all the artists for a year well done!  Cher did an awesome (lip-synched) performance of her new single "Afterlove" with tons of dancers around her who just rocked my world!   It's a great club track that will get your groove on!

I'd like to say something about the awards:  I dunno how they choose their nominations...but for film, they entries need to be from the past year only.  TITANIC won best soundtrack this year even though it came out in 1997.  Sure it sold best in 1998, but it came out in '97!  It already won tons of awards in '98's awards shows.   And some of the nominees seemed misplaced:  rappers in pop/rock entries?   And what about those performances??  Master P. was an insufferable ass again.   He kept spouting out "UUHHH!" and swore in his performance.  Yeah, he's cool.  (insert sarcasm here.)  Then we were treated to a duet of accordian spanish singers and their band.  Ooohhh, joy.  (more sarcasm needed here.)   What happened to all the cool performances of the 80's and early 90's??  What happened to all the classic artists that defined the genres?  Oh well.  AT least we had Cher's performance and that was th ehighlight for me plus Pearl Jam and Aerosmith winning were highlights for me as well.  Can't wait to see next years, hope it's better!

Later this month, there is a "CLUB MIX '99" version of Soft Cell's biggest hit:   "TAINTED LOVE" being released as a maxi-single!  This is exciting (for me anyway) cause it was one of the essential dance tracks of the 80's!  It's also my fave song of the New Wave era.  As far as I'm concerned, any 80's collection that has that song on it has gotta be good!  U can bet I'm buying this single as soon as it's out. I suggest you do too.
